Safe sharing

Share thoughtfully, feel at ease.

Intimacy is built to keep what you share between the two of you. These are the habits and settings that help it stay that way.

Ask before you share something personal, and ask again if you're not sure. Consent isn't a one-time box to tick: either of you can change your mind at any time.

  • Either partner can ask to delete anything, and either of you can delete any shared item yourself.
  • Delete really deletes. When an item is deleted, it is removed from both phones and its encrypted file is removed from our storage.
  • If something feels uncomfortable, say so. A good partner will listen.

Mark sensitive items so they stay blurred

Any photo or video can be marked sensitive. Sensitive is the default for new photos and videos, and you can choose per item when you upload.

  • The eye toggle

Sensitive items stay softly blurred until you tap the eye. You can reveal a single item without unblurring the rest.

  • Fingerprint or face check

Revealing can ask for your phone's fingerprint or face check, so only you can unblur on your phone.

  • Re-hidden when you leave

The moment you leave the app, everything blurs again. Intimacy always reopens safe to show.

Screenshots, screen recording and other cameras

On Android, screenshots and screen recording are blocked inside Intimacy, and the app is hidden in the recent-apps view.

What no app can prevent is someone photographing the screen with another camera. Share only what you're comfortable with, with someone you trust.

Keep your phone locked

  • Use a screen lock (a PIN, pattern, fingerprint or face) on your phone.
  • Turn on biometric sign-in in Intimacy. Your password is then stored encrypted on your phone and unlocked only by your fingerprint or face check. Your biometric data stays on your phone and never reaches us.
  • Don't share your Intimacy password with anyone, including your partner. Each of you has your own account.

Keep your recovery phrase private and offline

Your 24-word recovery phrase is the key to restoring your space on a new phone. Anyone with it, plus access to your account, could restore your space.

  • Write it down on paper and keep it somewhere private and safe.
  • Don't store it in a photo, a note app, an email or a cloud document.
  • We will never ask you for your recovery phrase.
  • If you lose it, and your password, no one can recover your data, including us.

Showing the app to friends or family

Want to show someone your timeline, a trip you're planning, or how Intimacy works? Go ahead. Items marked sensitive stay hidden behind a soft blur unless you deliberately reveal them, so nothing private slips through.

If a relationship ends

Either partner can unpair at any time, from More → Settings. Unpairing permanently erases everything in your shared space, for both of you, on both phones. It cannot be undone, and neither of you needs the other's permission.

If there is something you want to keep, save it before you unpair. If there is something you want gone, unpairing makes sure it is.

Never, ever

  • Never share images of anyone who hasn't agreed to them being taken and shared.
  • Never share anything involving someone under 18. Intimacy is for adults only, and we report any such content to the authorities. See our Child Safety Standards.
  • Never pressure your partner to share something they don't want to.

If someone is pressuring you

You never owe anyone a photo, a video or an answer. If someone is pressuring, threatening or controlling you, you deserve support.

  • If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services (911 in the US).
  • In the US, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is free, confidential and available 24/7: call 1-800-799-7233 or visit thehotline.org.
  • If you are worried a private image of you may be shared without your consent, StopNCII.org can help prevent it from being shared on participating platforms.
  • Outside the US, local support services and helplines can help, and your local emergency number is always there.

Reporting a concern to us

You can report a concern in the app (More → Settings → Report a concern), or email hello@ourintimacy.app with the subject “Safety report”. Tell us what happened and the email address of the account involved, if you know it. Please don't send us copies of harmful images. We read every report and take action, including removing accounts and contacting authorities where appropriate.
